This is a sample transcript for development.

Because that was the cheapest way to eat. Not with so many families to protect and so many lives to mend. As a student of history, I also know civilization’s debt to Islam. The Arab-Israeli conflict should no longer be used to distract the people of Arab nations from other problems. This is important because no development strategy can be based only upon what comes out of the ground, nor can it be sustained while young people are out of work.

It got hijacked. Farmers and scholars; statesmen and patriots who had traveled across an ocean to escape tyranny and persecution finally made real their declaration of independence at a Philadelphia convention that lasted through the spring of 1787. But what I will not do is suggest that the Senator takes his positions for political purposes. This is the hope of all humanity. I have made it clear to the Iraqi people that we pursue no bases, and no claim on their territory or resources. All of us have a responsibility to work for the day when the mothers of Israelis and Palestinians can see their children grow up without fear; when the Holy Land of three great faiths is the place of peace that God intended it to be; when Jerusalem is a secure and lasting home for Jews and Christians and Muslims, and a place for all of the children of Abraham to mingle peacefully together as in the story of Isra, when Moses, Jesus, and Mohammed (peace be upon them) joined in prayer.

Let us be our sister’s keeper. Because one of the things that we have to change in our politics is the idea that people cannot disagree without challenging each other’s character and patriotism. I am a Christian, but my father came from a Kenyan family that includes generations of Muslims.

John Kerry knows this. It is not up in heaven. There is one story in particularly that I’d like to leave you with today – a story I told when I had the great honor of speaking on Dr. This country of ours has more wealth than any nation, but that’s not what makes us rich. We cannot disguise hostility towards any religion behind the pretense of liberalism. This is important because no development strategy can be based only upon what comes out of the ground, nor can it be sustained while young people are out of work.

These enemies must be found. I’ve been speaking to a lot of churches recently, so it’s nice to be speaking to one that’s so familiar. But the truth is, that isn’t all that I know of the man. We want to talk about how to bring them home from a war that never should’ve been authorized and never should’ve been waged, and we want to talk about how we’ll show our patriotism by caring for them, and their families, and giving them the benefits they have earned. And that’s what we have to restore.

The fundamentals we use to measure economic strength are whether we are living up to that fundamental promise that has made this country great – a promise that is the only reason I am standing here tonight. You don’t defeat a terrorist network that operates in eighty countries by occupying Iraq. Not with an economy to fix and cities to rebuild and farms to save. That experience guides my conviction that partnership between America and Islam must be based on what Islam is, not what it isn’t. And yet Al Qaeda chose to ruthlessly murder these people, claimed credit for the attack, and even now states their determination to kill on a massive scale.

But I’m hopeful because I think there’s an awakening taking place in America. I just think he doesn’t know. America, our work will not be easy. That promise is our greatest inheritance.

I’d been inspired by the civil rights movement – by all the clear-eyed, straight-backed, courageous young people who’d boarded buses and traveled down South to march and sit at lunch counters, and lay down their lives in some cases for freedom. We need to heed the biblical call to care for “the least of these” and lift the poor out of despair. We want to talk about how to bring them home from a war that never should’ve been authorized and never should’ve been waged, and we want to talk about how we’ll show our patriotism by caring for them, and their families, and giving them the benefits they have earned. We need a President who can face the threats of the future, not keep grasping at the ideas of the past. Because one of the things that we have to change in our politics is the idea that people cannot disagree without challenging each other’s character and patriotism. And finally, just as America can never tolerate violence by extremists, we must never alter our principles.

My father, who I didn’t know, returned to Kenya when I was just two. To the Joshua generation, these challenges seem momentous – and they are. Palestinians must abandon violence.

It’s the hope of slaves sitting around a fire singing freedom songs. But we also know our conscience cannot rest so long as the war goes on in Iraq. But I will also renew the tough, direct diplomacy that can prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons and curb Russian aggression. The Arab-Israeli conflict should no longer be used to distract the people of Arab nations from other problems.

Those stories – of survival, and freedom, and hope – became our story, my story; the blood that had spilled was our blood, the tears our tears; until this black church, on this bright day, seemed once more a vessel carrying the story of a people into future generations and into a larger world. Talk show hosts and conservative commentators built entire careers unmasking bogus claims of racism while dismissing legitimate discussions of racial injustice and inequality as mere political correctness or reverse racism. This time we want to talk about the fact that the real problem is not that someone who doesn’t look like you might take your job; it’s that the corporation you work for will ship it overseas for nothing more than a profit. Tonight, more Americans are out of work and more are working harder for less. The Holy Koran teaches that whoever kills an innocent, it is as if he has killed all mankind; and whoever saves a person, it is as if he has saved all mankind. And while America in the past has focused on oil and gas in this part of the world, we now seek a broader engagement.

It’s what allows us to pursue our individual dreams and yet still come together as one American family. If you’re working forty hours a week, you shouldn’t be living in poverty. Now is the time to finally meet our moral obligation to provide every child a world-class education, because it will take nothing less to compete in the global economy. This is a difficult responsibility to embrace.

My faith teaches me that I can sit in church and pray all I want, but I won’t be fulfilling God’s will unless I go out and do the Lord’s work. Let’s come together – Protestant and Catholic, Muslim and Hindu and Jew, believer and non-believer alike. In that time, he’s said no to higher fuel-efficiency standards for cars, no to investments in renewable energy, no to renewable fuels. The question, now, is not what Iran is against, but rather what future it wants to build.

America, we are better than these last eight years. We are the party of Kennedy. To play a role in fulfilling Palestinian aspirations, and to unify the Palestinian people, Hamas must put an end to violence, recognize past agreements, and recognize Israel’s right to exist. Likewise, many Israelis recognize the need for a Palestinian state. All these things must be done in partnership.

Now even as we speak, there are those who are preparing to divide us, the spin masters, the negative ad peddlers who embrace the politics of anything goes. Segregated schools were, and are, inferior schools; we still haven’t fixed them, fifty years after Brown v. There need not be contradiction between development and tradition. And while America in the past has focused on oil and gas in this part of the world, we now seek a broader engagement.

Thank you very much everybody.
