Biography
Vinay GuptaVinay Gupta is a technologist, futurist, and policy analyst whose whole life was focused on meditation from the ages of 14-26, culminating in what he describes as enlightenment, and a calling to be of service amidst existential risk to humanity on a planetary scale. Since then, he’s brought thought leadership to environmental and infrastructure risk, failing states, energy policy, and disaster management. He worked with Amory Lovins at the Rocky Mountain Institute for 5 years. He is also a leading figure in the blockchain space, having co-ordinated the release of the blockchain platform Ethereum in July 2015. Vinay is also known for inventing the Hexayurt, a public domain disaster relief shelter designed to be built from commonly-available non-patented and open-source materials, which has become iconic in the Burning Man counter-culture. He has a particular interest in how specific technologies can close or create new avenues. That interest unites his work in cryptography, energy policy, defense, security, resilience and disaster management arenas. He is the founder and CEO of Mattereum, a London-based financial technology company using legally-enforceable smart contracts to enable the sale, lease, and transfer of physical property and other legal rights.
